Card Languages in Dex

Dex does not support tracking card languages. Instead, our database is organized by regions because set structures differ across these regions, not between languages within the same region.

Notion image

Dex currently does not treat language as a collectible attribute. This means you cannot track individual cards as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc. Instead, Dex groups cards by region, which reflects how Pokémon TCG products are actually printed and structured. The three regions supported in Dex are:

  • International
  • Japan
  • China (Simplified Chinese)

These regions differ in meaningful ways, such as set numbering, release structure, and, plenty of times, exclusive printings.

Why Dex Uses Regions Instead of Languages

Within the same region, different printed languages do not represent different cards from our database perspective.

For example English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, all share the exact same card list, card numbers, rarity distribution, and set structure. The only difference is the language printed on the card, mechanically and structurally, they are the same card. Because of this, Dex considers them a single entry under the International region.

What You Can Do Now

If tracking language is important to you, you can use Card Notes to record:

  • The language of your copy
  • Any language variants you own
  • Purchases or trades related to specific languages

This keeps the information accessible without conflicting with Dex’s region-based structure.

We’ll continue to listen to feedback and explore ways to support different collecting styles in the future.
