When browsing your collection, Dex lets you choose how card variants are displayed. You can either group all variants of a card together or show each one separately.
What Are Variants?
Variants are different printings or special editions of the same card. These include holographic versions and reverse holos, among others. Each variant is tracked individually in your collection with its own quantity.
Stack Variants
When Stack Variants is active, all variants of a card are grouped into a single entry. You see one card with the total quantity across all its variants combined. This gives you a cleaner, more compact view of your collection.
Split Variants
When Split Variants is active, every variant of a card is displayed as its own separate entry. Each entry shows only that specific variant's quantity. This is useful when you want to see exactly which printings you own and how many of each.
How to Toggle Between Stack and Split
- Navigate to any card list (your collection, an expansion, search results, etc.)
- Make sure you are in grid view (the toggle is not available in list view)
- Tap the Stack Variants or Split Variants button in the toolbar at the top
- The view updates instantly to reflect your choice
Your preference is saved automatically and applied the next time you browse.
When Split Variants Is Forced
In some cases, Dex will automatically switch to Split Variants:
- If a folder has tracked variants enabled, Split Variants is turned on so you can see per variant progress
- In the Trade Finder, when comparing variant level differences with a friend, Split Variants gives more accurate results
In the Trade Finder, a banner explains the difference between Stack and Split. With Stack, only the card itself is compared and individual variants are ignored. Switch to Split to compare each variant separately.
Good to Know
- Stack and Split only applies to grid view. List view always shows cards in stacked mode
- The toggle appears wherever you browse cards: collections, expansions, search results, folders, and the Trade Finder
- On Web and Android, the toggle is not yet available within folders. This is currently an iOS only feature for folder views
